An independent company since 2021, Organon has a history that spans over a century. From our origins in Oss, the Netherlands, we now have around 10,000 employees in almost 60 countries. Our global portfolio of more than 60 products is made possible by our six manufacturing sites – including our base in Oss, where our proud history continues over a hundred years on.

Our name and logo
The “Organon” is a collection of writings by the Greek philosopher Aristotle, in which he describes the art of logic as a tool (Greek: “Organon”) of science. Since then, “Organon” has been understood as “an instrument for the acquisition of knowledge”.
“Organon” was first chosen as the name of a Dutch pharmaceutical company founded Oss in 1923. The original Organon stood for advances in the field of women’s health like no other, with innovations including one of the first contraceptive pills and contraceptive vaginal rings.
In 2007, the Dutch company Organon was acquired by Schering-Plough. In 2009, it was merged into part of MSD (known in the USA as Merck & Co. Inc).
Following a spin-off from MSD in 2021, “Organon” was chosen as the name of our new company, because we want to continue the tradition of this pioneer in women’s health and surpass its legacy with innovative treatment options that benefit women around the world.
The Organon logo features a pattern of dots and dashes. The coloured dots stand for our different divisions, with the central point symbolising our focus on women’s health.
The lines represent our vision and values, including a commitment to improve people’s lives and, in particular, to contribute to a better and healthier life for women.
Collectively, the geometric shapes form a logo that is intended to convey our tradition as well as our values and our vision for the future as a distinctive and convincing whole.
