Rania Haggag’s journey into pharmacovigilance did not start in a classroom or office. It began at home, witnessing her mother’s struggle with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Her journey, particularly with the various medicines to treat the condition, left a lasting impression on Rania.

“My passion for this field was ignited by my mother’s journey, and now working in women’s health is a way for me to give back to all the women who have supported me,” Rania says. This mission to help safeguard women’s health became the cornerstone of her work as she rose through the ranks in pharmacovigilance.

Filling gaps in women’s health

Growing up in Egypt, Rania was acutely aware of the healthcare gaps for women. “Even during my studies, I realized that women were underrepresented in clinical trials,” she explains. This gap in research fueled her desire to work in a field where she could directly address the unmet needs of women and help elevate sex and gender considerations in the development of medical products.

At Organon, Rania now leads efforts to monitor adverse events, helping ensure that clinical trials and product safety measures better reflect women’s biological differences. Her work isn’t just about helping ensure that Organon’s products are used safely worldwide; it’s about reshaping how the healthcare system supports women.

Building a cycle of female empowerment

Rania’s career has been defined not just by her achievements but by her dedication to lifting up others along the way. She sees her mother who struggled with RA. She sees women from her region who, like her, have had to fight to be heard. And she’s determined to make sure their voices are amplified.

“What makes me proud to work at Organon is that we have a cycle of empowerment where we give back to each other,” she explains. “I want to create my own cycle of empowerment for the next generation of women leaders.” For Rania, this isn’t just a job–it’s a mission to create a lasting legacy and to show other women that they can lead and help make a difference.

Changing the global women’s health landscape

Rania is bringing her knowledge and expertise from Organon to countries in her region to help influence new pharmacovigilance regulations and raise awareness of women’s health issues. “The systems we build in pharmacovigilance influence clinical trials, impact product labels, and ultimately help shape treatments for the next generation of women,” she explains.

A call for future leaders

Every woman Rania has met along her journey has left an indelible mark on her. “Each woman I met has her own unique narrative, and through sharing her story, she uplifted me in one way or another,” Rania says. “I’m here to give back to every woman who has inspired me or lifted me up.”

Her vision is clear: a healthcare system that is more responsive, more inclusive, and more focused on the needs of women.
