Public policy and political contributions
We support policies that elevate the interests of women and patients, improve public health and promote access to medicines and healthcare solutions. We develop policy positions on topics that are connected to our vision and mission, and we aim to collaborate with those who share our passion for improving the lives of women and their families.
Public policy areas
When we share our views on legal and regulatory issues related to our industry, we do so transparently, as part of our commitment to ethics and integrity.
The Chief Government Affairs and Policy Officer oversees our public policy and government relations efforts in collaboration with key members of the executive leadership team, including the heads of R&D, Manufacturing and Supply, and the General Counsel. We engage with policymakers, legislators, multilateral organizations and governments to ensure policy and regulatory environments foster patient access to medicines, investment in the health of women, ethical business practices, science and innovation.
Our public policy areas include:
Well-being of women
We seek to improve women’s health and advance gender equity.
Access to healthcare
Our goal is to enable people around the world to live their best lives by delivering innovative health solutions. And we are committed to helping ensure that they are accessible to the patients who need them.
Innovation in healthcare
We support policies that promote innovation within the healthcare ecosystem for the benefits of patients.
Public health
We aim to play an active role in helping to address many of the public health issues in our world today, such as the growing burden of noncommunicable diseases and the environment.
Transparency and integrity
Our unwavering commitment to ethics and integrity reflects who we are. That’s why we transparently engage and share our views on many legal and regulatory issues related to our industry.
Animal care and use
We select partners who treat all animals under their care humanely and use them in testing only when there is no scientifically valid alternative.
Our public policy efforts include creating innovative partnerships globally as we advocate for continued investments in women’s health. In 2022, we made a commitment to Family Planning 2030, the only global partnership centered solely on family planning. Since June 2022, we have engaged in efforts to expand access to contraceptives, including:
- Partnering with the European Parliamentary Forum for Sexual and Reproductive Rights to expand the Contraception Policy Atlas to additional regions of the world. This effort demonstrates our belief that access to contraception should be a key concern of governments as they empower citizens to plan their families and lives.
- Initiating the Coalition for Women’s Health Africa, in collaboration with African Health Business, a collective private health sector action platform for the advancement of women’s health on the African continent.
- Serving as the private sector partner to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Smart Families Initiative under the banner of the government of Thailand, and in partnership with Jhpiego. This initiative brings member economies together to develop cross-sector policies that strive to aid women’s economic participation, increase overall economic growth through effective family planning policies and promote gender equality.

Political contributions
In the United States, our government affairs professionals who lobby on the state and federal level are registered and abide by the laws and regulations set forth by states and the FEC. Any individuals engaged in lobbying must also follow a code of ethics around any activity and the issues they cover.
All lobbying activities are regularly tracked and reported. For federal lobbying, regular reporting is required to cover engagement, issues and resourcing. In federal reports, the issues covered by internal lobbyists, as well as any external consultants, are publicly available through the FEC.
We abide by all state and federal reporting requirements, transparently representing the issues and focus areas of our teams. Examples of federal lobbying include women’s health, biosimilar sustainability and industrywide policies like reimbursement.
As part of our advocacy for gender equity and women’s health in the U.S., we make political contributions that reflect our interests, often via the Political Action Committee (PAC).
In general, we make political contributions to individual candidates, though we may also contribute to leadership PACs, party committees, and governors’ associations as appropriate. Organon and the PAC provide financial support to a select bipartisan group of candidates for federal and state offices.
Policy and lobbying activities in the U.S. are overseen by our Chief Government Affairs and Policy Officer with teams focusing on state and federal engagement. Both the federal and state activities are subject to regular reporting and transparency policies as required by law, and all employees must follow the Code of Conduct. In addition to these teams, we also engage external consultants for lobbying activities who are subject to legal reporting standards and Organon’s principles.
The Political Contributions Governance Committee, composed of leaders from our operating units, meets regularly to evaluate budgets and candidates according to criteria consistent with the following:
- Alignment with views and actions on issues of importance to Organon.
- The candidate’s current or likely position in leadership.
- The presence of our facilities, businesses or employees in the candidate’s district.
- The candidate shall not have engaged in unethical conduct or behavior.
All contributions are carefully considered on a case-by-case basis.
Organon and the PAC may consider ceasing contributions or requesting a refund from a candidate or committee if credible, specific and serious allegations about the candidate’s conduct arise.
We publicly disclose direct PAC and corporate political contributions to individual candidates, political parties and political organizations at least semiannually. In addition, candidates are required by law to disclose contributions.
By making political contributions, we seek to participate constructively and responsibly in the political process and to provide clarifying analysis and information regarding the issues that affect our business and patient care.
